On this date, 9 January which also was Cassandra Austen’s birth date, we have three letters from Jane over a five year period, from 1796 to 1801.  Interesting that in 1796 she was waxing poetic over Tom Lefroy (whose birthday was the preceding day), in 1799 talking of how she was not much in demand for dancing at a ball the previous day, and in 1801 planning the family’s remove from Steventon to Bath.
