YES!!! Jane Austen’s letter on this date in 1813 from her cottage in Chawton to her sister Cassandra, visiting at Steventon, transmits news of her having received her copy of the newly published Pride and Prejudice !!! Though she is vexed that she did not receive enough to immediately send to all her family, the delight in it is obvious — and she is able to report that a reading of it to her friend Miss Benn resulted in Elizabeth Bennet being much admired — “I must confess that I think her as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print, & how I shall be able to tolerate those who do not like her at least, I do not know.–“

I think Jane would be pleased at the reception Elizabeth has received over the years. I’ve hardly ever heard of a person who disliked Lizzy, and I’m fairly sure I wouldn’t want to know anyone who fits that description. 🙂
LOL – you’re in good company in that opinion, Kate!!!
And how happy she let us all adopt her child! Thank you for posting!
Excellent point, Hazel! Thanks for visiting my blog — I hope you’ll return as I get more active with articles and such during this year, but in the meantime, I’ll be posting Jane Austen’s letters daily on the dates that she wrote them, so please come join me in the venture
