Here is a day for you! Did Bath or Ibthrop ever see a finer 8th of April?

Two letters again for the 8th April, the first in 1798 to cousin Philadelphia Walter, and the second to sister Cassandra in 1805.  The latter gave me the glorious opening employed to title this post — and also a great chuckle in its contents.  Given the changes over time in word definitions, my first inclination was to laugh upon reading “This morning we have been to see Miss Chamberlayne look hot on horseback.”!  😀

8th April 1798 – to Philadelphia Walter

8th April 1805 – to Cassandra, visiting at Ibthorp
