& a little black kitten runs about the Staircase

My title quote is not the highlight of today’s letter from Jane Austen to her sister, but I liked the “connection” between us of black kittens (as you might surmise, I have one) — rather today’s letter is one written in 1799 when Jane had just arrived in Bath with her brother’s family and her mother, for a stay in Queen Square.  This missive is full of little descriptions and jests, and thoroughly enjoyable as such —

17th May 1799 – from Queen Square, Bath
