You know how interesting the purchase of a sponge-cake is to me.

The third day (and final instalment) of this letter to Cassandra in 1808 continues with details of family and friends and their situations.  I am enjoying reading these letters on the day they were written, one at a time in small doses, as I seem to notice a lot more of the details than when I read the collection straight through.  Shades of Mrs Bates, perhaps, in the quote I used for my post title today… and the mundane commentary that links Jane Austen’s day with our own, such as conversations about getting hair cut – though of course our author responds to Anna’s haircut with her usual flair.
