Mr Richard Harvey’s match is put off, till he has got a Better Christian name, of which he has great Hopes.

While I’ve been slaving away at my busiest time of year at work (hence being behind in posting letters by about a week, sorry…) Jane Austen was having a delightful time staying with her brother Edward in Kent in 1796.  Below are links to a letter written over a two-day period, the 15th and 16th September to her sister Cassandra.  It has such a light feel to it, even when describing mundane events and trip plans, that it makes me smile to read it.  [And, I am always intrigued by Jane Austen’s aversion to the name ‘Richard’]
